baby, if you ever wondered... December 3, 2013
Looking at parodies of shows from the seventies and eighties does nothing so much as to remind me that I invariably thought the plain (rather: “plain”) smart girl was hot, rather than the bleached blonde with big tits that we were supposed to think was the hot one. Velma, Sabrina, Janet – they were all the ones I wanted to fuck, or at least was inexplicably stirred by before I was old enough to know what fucking was.
I am put in mind of the girls I would rather have leg-humped by the new parody of WKRP in Cincinnati, and the appearance therein of Holly Heart as the bespectacled and perpetually underrated Bailey, who did something on the show (I can’t remember too much about everyone’s jobs, but I can still sing the theme song). Bailey and Les Nessman share a sweet session while looking for some tickets in a file cabinet.
Jennifer is here portrayed by Ashlynn Brooke, who (sadly) does not look any less artificial or ridiculous in her platinum wig than Loni Anderson did in the original show. It’s funny, but they just don’t make that kind of hair any more. I’m not much of a notice when it comes to fashion, but that I do know. Also appearing are Kagney Linn Karter, Andy San Dimas, Faye Reagan, Jackie Daniels as, respectively, a girl in bed, a disc jockey groupie, and two contestants for Supertramp tickets.
WKRP in Cincinnati the parody is aided in its quest for realism by the original show’s low-ish budget – it wasn’t too hard to make a few sets that look a lot like the original show did. It’s slapdash and low-rent, but it’s a fun little ride with a lot of insider references to the original show. If you are still harboring some fantasies from your adolescence about Jennifer or Bailey (or, God help you, Johnny Fever), well, here is where you can scratch that itch.
