The porn industry is full of deserving causes (take Nicki Hunter's leukemia and Dana DeArmond's house fire); it is an industry that almost by its very nature attracts rebels, outlaws and people who are less likely than the average man to hew to things like health plans, unions, and 401(k) programs. Most of the time, that doesn't affect fans too much, unless they decide to help out their favorite star a little. There's a case in the works now, though, that's going to have a much more widely felt impact when the dust clears. John Stagliano, also known as Buttman, is going to court, probably in early 2009 on obscenity charges; it's the usual bullshit -- providing porn to consenting adults in areas populated largely by prudes.

Here is not the place and now is not the time to discuss the case or its merits. It is instead the time and place to mention that Evil Angel is putting out a thorough and generous compilation of scenes by every director currently working for Evil Angel, and Jules Jordan, plus one original scene, to help defray the costs of John Stagliano's legal expenses in this case. If you have ever gotten off to an Evil Angel scene, watched any gonzo porn, or even looked appreciatively at an ass, you should buy at least one copy of this DVD.

Each scene, except for the last, is taken from a previous Evil Angel release. Some of them feature really big stars (Sasha Grey, Belladonna, Melissa Lauren), and some have performers who have faded into the what we must charitably refer to as the mists of history (Cherry Jul, Gabriella Mai, Kelly Stafford). Most are names you'll at least recognize and probably remember with fondness. The directors tend toward the big names, though -- Jules Jordan, Rocco Siffredi, John Leslie, Christoph Clark, Belladonna, and of course, John Stagliano homself. Even though this is a compilation DVD, it's very much worth your money -- not just for the porn, but for your support of the industry in a time when it can fairly be said that the people whoa re pushing the Puritan agenda will almost certainly be coming for you next. once it's illegal to make or sell porn, how big a step is it to making it illegal to have it?

Everyone should have a favorite Evil Angel director -- there should be an online quiz somewhere that tells you, like which of the cast of Friends you are or what your Hogwarts magical discipline is, which of the many EA auteurs you would most enjoy. Just the ones currently working there have provided well over nine full hours of material on three discs; you will almost certainly have your favorites, but there's no-one working there who isn't at least a decent director, and every one has picked a great scene.

The standouts for me? On the first disc, Kelly Stafford, Rocco Siffredi and a host of masked hackers who crowd around Kelly in a parking lot. Kelly is one of the dirtiest girls ever to make it into porn; her appetites are awesome and she's got a great body, with big natural tits and a naturally slutty face. On the second disc, Belladonna and Lexington Steele from Cock Happy. Belladonna is the most amazing combination of sweet and filthy, and she puts everything into every scene. She's been out of porn for nearly ten years, but she hasn't lost a step.
