Scene 1: Kirsten Price, Barrett Blade Scene 2: Avena Lee, Eric Masterson Scene 3: Cassie Courtland, Marcos Leon Scene 4: Keri Sable, Chris Evans Scene 5: Kimberly Kane, Evan Stone Scene 6: Kimberly Kane, tentacled alien monster Michael Raven's story of alien abduction and sexual experimentation might be the closest thing to a real movie you'll see when you're buying porn. This tale of the extra-terrestrial invasion of a small town - Desert City, California - offers some genuinely creepy moments as well as a well-acted, enjoyable thriller. And it's like a real movie - it's uncompromising in its commitment to legitimacy, as weird as that may seem.
How so? Well, for one thing, in a lot of porn movies, you might find one character who doesn't have sex, one actor who's in the thing in a non-sex role, and everyone else in the movie is fucking, a ratio which leaves you with a kind of unpopulated shell, a movie in which you know everyone is a porn actor. In The Visitors, not only do the non-sex actors outnumber the porn stars, Raven has brought in a couple of porn actresses to play roles in which they don't have sex or even show skin. Frankie Dashwood plays an alien abductee being interviewed on a TV show, Roxanne Hall makes a cameo as a TV reporter doing a live story on a small town pestered by aliens, and Eva Angelina plays a girl who goes out to hang around at a campfire but refuses to get busy with one of the other partiers - she's just there to fill out the scene, to make it real. The movie feels like a film with a cast instead of just a dozen people fucking.
What else? Raven avoids the trap of having too much music in the movie - during most of the sex scenes, there's no music at all, let alone porn music. The exception is the first scene, during which Kirsten Price and Barrett Blade get it on in the back of a pickup truck while the radio is playing. The lack of music makes for more atmosphere instead of less.
Raven also declines to show us the aliens or their accoutrements in any detail. There are flashes of alien shapes and hints of faces, but the only sustained look we get at any extra-terrestrial apparata is the bulbed tentacle that violates (and pleasures) Kimberly Kane in the movie's final sex scene (not giving anything away here - you can see it on the box).
Finally, but most importantly, the movie isn't paced like a sex flick. The first sex scene doesn't start until nearly ten minutes in, and when it's done, the next one is fifteen minutes away. Raven sets a slow, building pace, and he sticks to it, unlike directors who get tired of waiting and hit you with all the sex once they figure the story is out of the way.
And speaking of story: There is one. I'm not going to go too deeply into what it's about, because, to be honest, it doesn't matter. The Visitors doesn't make any statements about society, offers us no insights into anyone's depth of character, does not make us think about important questions, does not prompt us to consider the universe. There are two sisters, one of whom has seen aliens since she was a little girl, and then some aliens come and take her and her friends and family away. That's all, and I will not dwell further on it, because to do so would be to overanalyze the movie. More importantly, though, it would be to miss the point, and the point is that the movie is suspenseful, atmospheric, creepy, and engaging. It could have been about mummies, a cave-in at a coal mine, or an escaped monkey, and the methods Raven uses to make it would have made it an entertaining piece of work.
And speaking of entertaining pieces of work: Kimberly Kane. Even though Keri Sable is on the cover, Kimberly Kane is the one who carries the movie. She's the one the story focuses on, and she's the only character with two sex scenes. Admittedly, one is with an alien tentacle with a light bulb stuck on the end, but it's still sex. Kimberly's acting is largely body language; she doesn't have a ton of dialogue, but what she does have is carried off with skill and with heart. She's a small-town girl who lives with her dad and her sister, and most of what she does is move around the house they live in and act like a small-town girl stuck in a house with her dad and her sister. There's a brief conversation with her dad that gives some background information, but mostly, Kimberly tells us everything we need to know about her with posture, facial expression, and motion. She manages to be sexy and hot and melancholy and a little hopeful at the same time, as well as showing flashes of other things during her many short scenes.
Keri Sable plays a girl who's had aliens on the brain since she was little, and maybe on other parts of her as well. As usual, she's gorgeous, lithe and sexy; Avena Lee is a girl who's afraid of pretty much everything, including aliens (which turns out to be the only thing she needed to worry about). Kirsten Price and Cassie Courtland are both almost extras, even though they have full-length sex scenes (Courtland's is only a blowjob), but they fill out the cast nicely. The guys, for the most part are what guys are in adult movies, although in this case they all seem to be decent actors. Most of the plot advancement from men is accomplished by Kimberly's father and by the men playing the local sheriff's department, but there's a scene in which a few characters are sitting around a campfire telling spooky stories, and the boys, particularly Eric Masterson, get some capable exposition in.
There's not a lot to say about the sex except that it's good, Wicked-quality fucking, with good-looking women, standard guys, good camerawork. The sex scenes are all hot and well-shot, but except for the last one, in which aliens probe Kimberly Kane, they're not much different from sex you've already seen with the same people. Don't get me wrong, it's high-quality sex, and you're going to like it a lot, it's just that this is a good movie, too. Good sex - you're used to that, but good sex in a good movie is something to get doubly excited about. All the scenes have condoms and there's no anal, but there are a few facials. There are a few non-facials, too, which is refreshing (even though all the scenes have condoms, all the money shots are externals, which might explain why the aliens are confused about human reproduction. If they have been watching Desert City for a while, they may have reached the conclusion that we need to be rescued from ourselves, since we clearly have no idea how to have sex correctly.
The first sex scene features Barrett Blade and Kirsten Price in the back of a pickup truck, after which aliens come for Kirsten. Next, Avena Lee and Eric Masterson sneak off from a campfire to get it on in an abandoned train, after which aliens come for Avena. Cassie Courtland and Marcos Leon decide to stay by the fire for their tryst, but fire is no hindrance to aliens to the aliens who come for Cassie. Keri Sable and Chris Evans opt for the back of a pickup truck, unaware that they are repeating the mistakes of history. A little while later, after some plot, aliens come for Keri. It's odd that they take so long to get to her, considering the fact that they've been bothering her since she was little, but maybe they figure they know where she lives, so why hurry? Finally Kimberly Kane and Evan Stone have sex in her bedroom, before, during, and after which aliens come for Kimberly. You'll understand after you see it. Once the aliens have gotten their three-fingered mitts on Kimberly, she comes for them.
The Visitors might well be the start of a franchise; it could well serve the same function for a series of alien-abduction themed thrillers that The Hobbit served for the Lord Of The Rings books (and will serve for the movies as soon as Peter Jackson gets around to making it). If Michael Raven decides to exploit the ending of The Visitors, which might be a cliffhanger or might not be, depending on whether he decides to exploit it, I for one will be at the front of the line to buy the next installment.
Collapse.
